A quick video of the fireworks over Krakow during the 2016/2017 New Year celebrations, taken from a drone. Pretty brave flying that during the fireworks, could have ended up becoming one! But a very interesting perspective though.
Krakow goes big on New Year’s Eve, all the bars are packed, with many being reserved or ticket only, so get sorted early.
None of the shops are open on 1st Jan, as with all public holidays in Poland. If you need something, you might get lucky with a little convenience store or a petrol station. Nothing else will be open! You have been warned!
Today, it feels like we are finally heading into the winter season proper. There’s a real biting cold in the air, and this afternoon it’s been snowing really heavily, so we have a nice white dusting across the city. The forecast shows that we are due snow for most of the week too, which will be nice as I have the first of my many long weekends.
I’ve tried to be a bit more organised this year and taken advantage of all the Polish public holidays, and using a bit of annual leave, I have several long weekends off. These will hopefully be used for trips around the south of Poland. I’ll be sure to post updates here after each trip. I’ll also be taking a week off work to install a new kitchen in my house, I used to do it when I left school, so we will see how much I remember!
Anyway, Happy New Year everyone, I wish you all a very prosperous and happy year with your families!
