Winter this year has been pretty disappointing in terms of the weather. Normally we’d have a fair amount of snow and temperatures down to -15c or even -20c. That hasn’t been the case this year, and the lowest I’ve seen has been -7c.
Now it might sound a bit weird to complain about it not being cold enough. But I’ve grown to really enjoy the snow, and freezing temperatures. There’s something about the crispness of the air, and pure white snow covering the ground.
So, we decided to go and find the winter we were missing. A short weekend break to the spa town of Krynica Zdrój, in the south of Poland. Nestled in the Beskid mountains, it’s a place we have visited before in the summer and really enjoyed.
We took a train directly there, which takes around 3.5 hours, but I’m not a confident driver in the winter, so it was more relaxing. Upon arriving we made our way out into a heavy snowfall, walking though several inches of fresh snow. Our hotel was the Krynica Conference & Spa. A reasonable and clean hotel, close to the town centre.
We walked round town and had some food in one of the small local restaurants and just chilled. But on our second day, we decided to take a walk, up one of the smaller mountains. We went via the park, and slowly made our way up the trail. When we reached the top, we were greeted by this view…
A beautiful, sunny & clear day! It was really cold though, and we had to keep moving to stay warm!
It was a great short break, even for just 2 days and I’d highly recommend throwing on a load of layers and heading to the mountains in the winter! I’ll throw a few more pics below to try and convince you!
